Hi, I’m Tanvir! I’ve just finished my first year of A-levels at my local sixth form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Medicine has been the only real thing I’ve ever seen myself doing with my life. The road to studying Medicine is tough and I’ve been working really hard the past few years to achieve my goal – to become a doctor.
I’ve had a few experiences with the health care service – too many! I fractured bones in both my arms at once and was amazed with the recovery process and the fact that the human body can withstand so much damage yet still be helped to recovery – and showed me how doctors play a central role in that process.
I’ve been lucky enough to have had work experience at various places – including Royal London Hospital and UCL Hospital, this gave me many chances to reflect – for example, I was shocked at how big a problem infectious TB still is and had the chance to consider the social stigma attached to it – one of the reasons many people choose not to seek treatment for it. I’ve also seen more hands-on stuff, like arthroscopies that are used to repair joint damage. Opportunities like these have given me a chance to appreciate how big a field Medicine is and how importance teamwork is.
